The Baltic illustrators’ exhibition Telling the City is open until the end of March on the steps of the Permeke Library in Antwerp. The exhibition showcases works by 20 illustrators from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, depicting childhood in an urban environment—both in reality and through imagination.
The illustrations are created by the following artists: Ieva Babilaitė, Inga Dagilė, Simona Jurčiukonytė, Aušra Kiudulaitė, and Martynas Pavilonis from Lithuania; Aleksejs Naumovs, Gundega Muzikante, Līva Ozola, Anita Paegle, and Anna Vaivare from Latvia; Kärt Einasto, Ragne Hoog, Marja-Liisa Plats, Ulla Saar, and Reda Tomingas from Estonia; Maciek Blaźniak, Katarzyna Bogucka, Dominika Czerniak-Chojnacka, Gosia Kulik, and Adam Pękalski from Poland. Each artist invites the audience to take a closer look at the city, experience its artistic side, and read its stories – whether they are real or imaginary.
Originally launched at the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre in 2024, the exhibition has now traveled to Belgium to offer discoveries and inspiration to an international audience. The exhibition opened during the children’s literature festival Kabaal, held on March 1–2, 2025.
