Estonian illustrator and graphic novelist Joonas Sildre has received the Gold Award in the Graphic Novel/Manga category at the 2024 PubWest Book Design Awards for his acclaimed work Between Two Sounds: Arvo Pärt`s Journey to His Musical Language (Plough Publishing House).
The graphic novel, which delves into the early life and artistic journey of world-renowned Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, has been widely praised for its unique visual storytelling and meticulous design. Originally published in Estonian in 2018, Between Two Sounds has since been translated into multiple languages, including English in 2024.
The PubWest Book Design Awards celebrate outstanding book design and production in North America, recognizing publishers, designers, and illustrators who push creative and technical boundaries. The judges commended Between Two Sounds for its “excellent use of colour, sophisticated and clear design, and effective cover treatment.”
