Kristjan can't wait for his birthday to arrive. He hopes with his whole heart that he will finally receive the long-awaited gift - a dog. After all, it would only be fair. His father, who lives in Finland with his new family, has a dog. So why shouldn't Kristjan, his sister, and their mother have one too?
However, you can only imagine his disappointment when he finds out that his big birthday present is not a dog but a new phone. Even though the phone was on a second place on his wish list, it is hard to swallow a bitter pill of injustice. "It will help you keep in touch with your father," his mother explains but Kristjan is utterly hurt and decides to run away from home to go see his dad. While waiting at the bus stop, he notices a little stray dog wandering alone. He couldn't possibly just leave the dog, could he?
