Illustrator Kadi Kurema’s jubilee exhibition #VANA (#OLD)

Illustrator Kadi Kurema’s exhibition „#VANA“ („#OLD“) can be seen at the Estonian Children`s Literature Centre from February 28 to March 25. Exhibition celebrates her 60th jubilee.

„To quote Indrek Koff, the author of the books „If I Were Grandpa“ and „If I Were Grandma“, the best and nicest people are at the both ends of life. So in this case – children and grandparents. Some have hashtags, stories and tiktoks, others have reading glasses and picture shots from the apple orchard,“ Kadi Kurema commented on the idea of her exhibition.

As the illustrator of Koff’s books, she represents the other side of life and is looking for the best old one. „Everybody has sometimes come across a pile of old stuff that needs sorting. Class photos from the last century, reading diaries, a collection of candy wrappers, worn-out board games – good old things that bring back memories of games and make the heart flutter. It’s hard to throw these items away. They don’t disappear from the memories anyway,“ added Kurema.

Kadi Kurema is an Estonian graphic artist and book illustrator, lecturer and grandmother. Her illustrations from 2017-2023 are on display in the centre’s illustration gallery and stairway gallery. The artist has recorded graphics in her illustrations, mixing drawing and old graphic techniques.

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the centre Mon–Fri 10–18 and Sat 11–16.
